Abstract :
In the hospital, nurses need to transfer a paralyse patient from medical bed to others places, such as x-ray laboratory, MRI laboratory, another ward and others. Normally two nurses are needed to transfer the patient. The task becomes more challenging when transferring an overweight patient. The nurses will experience a musculoskeletal disorder (MSDS) including back injuries in the long run. If the task is carried out frequently, most likely the nurses will experience a chronic back pain. Smart Transfer Patient Bed is designed to solve the nurses´ problems in transferring patient. The aim of the product is to assist the nurse to transfer the patient from the warded bed to the medical bed so that the nurse can bring the patient to another location. The main concept of this product is to move the patient slowly and smoothly. A linear actuator and ball transfers are used as the main components to transfer the patient. The linear actuator is used to pull and push the moving platform. While the ball transfers are used to reduce the friction when the platform is moving. Smart Transfer Patient Bed can support a patient with maximum weight of 150 kg. The main frame of this product was made by using an aluminium profile. During the assembly process, the platform could not move in on a straight line smoothly. After some modifications were made, the platform could move on straight line smoothly and safely.
