Abstract
This paper presents the design of a compact multiband patch antenna for X-band with enhanced bandwidth. Slots created on the ground plane and top patch provides an optimized patch area subsequently resulting into considerable reduction in size as compared to a typical microstrip patch. Such an antenna is meant for satellite communication and radar applications. The different performance parameters like return loss, radiation pattern, voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) & gain have been evaluated and compared with measured results. Simulations results depict that the proposed antenna covers an impedance bandwidth of 2.47 GHz in X-band frequency range. The design has achieved an average peak gain of 7.92 dB. Furthermore the proposed antenna is fabricated and tested for the validation of simulated results. The simulated and measured results are together satisfactory. The overall dimensions of the proposed antenna are 30 mm × 32 mm× 0.8 mm.
