Abstract
The paper presents the model developed by the Alternative Transients Program (ATP) in order to simulate the performance of a 230 kV Mexican transmission line with externally gapped type arresters installed in all three phases of some towers of the line studied. The results obtained from the model helped to determine the countermeasure to reduce lightning faults in the Mexican transmission line by installing arresters with arcing horn gap
