Abstract
In modern era, the power system is becoming more and more complex due to unbalanced loads and other different conditions. Due to complexity of the power system, it is very difficult to maintain stability and maintain system voltage. So utilization of system equipments is not possible. Due to poor power factor at load side the voltage regulation gets worse and the reactive power demanded by load increases. This paper presents performance of the STATCOM to compensate for the reactive power demanded by the load and maintain the grid reactive power near to zero, which reduces the burden of the grid. The conventional PI controller is used to generate the reference current which uses hysteresis current control (HCC) technique to generate the pulse for 3-phase voltage source converter. MATLAB/Simulation is used to analyse the performance. This simulation is done on actual voltage level (33kV).
