Abstract
Self-excited induction generators are extensively used for wind power generation in remote and grid-isolated areas. It is challenging to maintain constant voltage and frequency under variable loads conditions for such kind of generators. As a result, its applications have been limited in the field. One of the technique used to regulate voltage is shunt compensation scheme i.e. by connecting STATCOM in shunt with the load which improve voltage profile. This paper presents the dynamic analysis of three-phase self-excited induction generator (SEIG) with and without shunt compensation statcom feeding a static load. Mathematical modeling and simulation study is carried out using MATLAB/Simulink. The rotor reference frame is recommended for the analysis. Here the statcom provides the additional reactive power desired to regulate the generator output voltage under variable loads. Mathematical modeling and suitable simulations responses justify the analysis.
