Abstract :
Direct current (DC) High temperature superconductor (HTS) cable has more attracted attention for power transmission for recent years. While it transmits large current, the current flowing through its termination will generate high magnetic field which may affect on the critical current of the HTS conductor near the terminal. However, there are few methods to calculate the terminal influence on characteristic of this kind of HTS cable. This paper aims to evaluate the local critical current of the DC HTS cable at the termination in the case of transmitting large current capacity based on analyzing the magnetic field due to the terminal current. The result shows that the terminal influence is rather serious and cannot be neglected in the cable design.
