Abstract
In order to make the pulsed power system for electromagnetic launchers compact and reduce the volume and weight, a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) with toroidal windings was designed in this paper. Due to the existence of teeth and slots at the outside edge of the stator, the flux lines distribute nonuniformly and leakage flux increases. The stator was divided into two parts and the effects of different nonmagnetic materials as the outside part on the performance were studied. Moreover, their influences on the temperature rise were compared. Based on the aforementioned analysis, aluminum as the outside part material could solve the problem of leakage flux and decrease the temperature rise.
