Abstract :
KAPTON polyimide insulation layers and nylon plates are two insulation materials. They are commonly used in the superconducting tapes winding. The objective of this paper is to compare their heat diffusion abilities and sizes quantitatively. In this paper, the recovery time test was done to compare their heat diffusion abilities. Based on KAPTON polyimide insulation layers and nylon plates, two winding samples were made. The result shows that nylon plates can provide superconducting tapes a shorter recovery time than KAPTON polyimide insulation layers. Nylon plates have a better heat diffusion ability. Therefore they can be used in both AC and DC superconducting tapes winding. The size of KAPTON polyimide insulation layers is smaller. They can be used in some DC superconducting tapes winding when size is the first priority.
