Abstract
This paper presents a novel brushless electrically excited synchronous generator (BEESG) with hybrid rotor. The proposed generator is characterized with two sets of stator windings with different pole numbers. It also cancels brushes and slip rings so as to improve the reliability. In this paper, the structure and operation principle of BEESG are introduced. And inductance parameters of BEESG are simulated and tested. The core loss and copper loss of this prototype are calculated. An improved calculation model for the core loss is used which consider the influences of alternating magnetic field, rotating magnetic field and skin effect. These are further examined by experimental tests on a 11 kW prototype motor with 8+4 poles. The machine is proved to have good static and dynamic performance.
