  • Abstract
Flow control of magnetohydrodynamic flow in a cylindrical spiral channel is studied. Magnetic field strength, voltage and magnetic-force-based rectification are used as the controllers. An axial-symmetric cylindrical spiral channel which helps to control the magnetic flow is designed. The flow is subjected to non-periodic inlet and outlet conditions where the inlet profile of the axial velocity is prescribed along with outflow at the outlet. The magnetic flow is accelerated at the spiral section in the channel with the help of magnetic field. In addition, magnetic field is used to decrease flow kinetic energy loss in the rectification section. The flow control method proposed is effective to increase the magnetic flow kinetic energy. Moreover, applying the proposed flow control method during flow evolution will improve the propulsion performance of the spiral channel.
