Abstract
Transmit diversity schemes have recently been adopted by the third generation (3G) cellular standards based on Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) technique to improve performance in slow fading environment. These schemes are variants of a simple block-coded Space-Time code. One of them is described in detail in this paper along with the proposition of a general receiver architecture for its demodulation. The proposed architecture minimizes the additional hardware required to extend an existing non-transmit diversity receiver to one with transmit diversity reception capability. The same architecture can also be easily modified to receive other schemes with a simple software change.
