Abstract
We developed a novel wearable device for monitoring electrocardiogram (ECG) of children in a living environment using clothes fitted with dry electrodes on elastic-type sleeve cuffs. The ECG signals are captured at the wrist with a very light pressure applied by the elastic element of the clothes. This reduces the feeling of restraint, and hence, the proposed system is suitable for the ECG measurement of children during their activities of daily life. In this paper, we describe the design details of the proposed system and conduct experiments to determine the effects of the electrode location and the elastic materials on the motion artifacts. We also evaluate the performance of the developed device with a child participant. The accuracy of R-wave detection is more than 96 %, and the error ratio of R-R intervals is less than 1 % in both the resting state and when small movements are made.
