Abstract :
This paper deals with numerical investigation of a thermal convection during crystal growth in a vertical Bridgman cavity with varied heating and cooling temperatures and containing a low Prandtl number fluid. The transient Navier-Stokes equations coupled with heat and mass balances are solved numerically by using a finite-volume technique. The results obtained are given for 103 <;Ra<;105, Pr = 0, 01. The accent is put in the effect of the modulation frequency, amplitude and phase shift between the hot and cold temperature on the flow intensity and thermal transfer.
