Abstract
The small scale power networks i.e. microgrids are trending due to their various advantages including seamless integration of renewable energy resources. Microgrids are developed using diverse techniques depending on geological, technological factors. As a result, a complex network of various types of microgrids formed around the globe. And there are no set standards or policies to categorize and/or evaluate these systems. Hence, microgrid testbeds are being developed around the globe to understand these technologies. This paper presents a generic testbed focused on the needs of developing countries. It has various technologies that can be used in three subgrids i.e. DC microgrid, AC microgrid and Solar Home Systems (SHS). Various operational scenarios are considered to evaluate the capabilities of microgrids with applied control and protection schemes. This paper also envisions the future microgrid testbed nature using smart technologies in the developing countries.
