Abstract :
Photovoltaic (PV) supported DSTATCOM is proposed in this paper. The existence of harmonic in the power system has increased due to the high usage of power electronics. Harmonics has contributed excessive distortion to the voltage and current waveform and eventually affecting the power system. To improve the performance of ac power systems, we need to manage reactive power in an efficient way. DSTATCOM provides reactive power compensation and source current harmonic reduction. The proposed DSTATCOM consists of a three-leg Voltage Source Converter with a DC bus capacitor. IcosΦ algorithm is used to extract reference current for the VSC. The PI controller is used to maintain the DC link voltage to the reference value. PV array is connected to the dc link of the converter through a boost converter. The gate signals to the VSC is generated by Pulse Width Modulation current controller. The performance of the proposed system is analysed under various non-linear and reactive loads. The real power injection is possible by interfacing PV array with DSTATCOM. Simulation studies have been performed by MATLAB/Simulink software. Simulation results have shown the success of the implemented system in reactive power compensation and minimum input current harmonic content.
