Abstract :
HVDC transmission technology is an efficient alternative for bulk power transmission over long distances and is used for subsea electrical transmission and interconnection of asynchronous ac grids. Converters play an important role in HVDC transmission systems. Here a Bidirectional Buck Boost Inverter based HVDC (BBI-HVDC) transmission system is presented. The output voltage and current of the new inverter is purely sinusoidal. The Buck boost inverter based HVDC system with sliding mode controller is simulated and studied through Matlab/Simulink. Analysis of the system is carried out during normal operating conditions, ac side faults and dc side faults. The ability of the proposed controller to track the reference active power has been proved. The results show the promising performance of the BBI-HVDC system.
