Abstract :
This paper proposes a new optimization algorithm suitable to solve economic load dispatch problem of power system considering valve-point loading effects. The new optimization algorithm is a time varying constriction factor based particle swarm optimization (VCF_PSO). In the proposed algorithm, the two acceleration coefficients of particle swarm optimization are varied in order to obtain a varying constriction as the iteration proceeds which lead to give a fast and efficient algorithm. To test the effectiveness and the robustness of the proposed algorithm, economic load dispatch problems with valve-point effects of two IEEE test systems of 3-unit and 13-unit has been solved and the results obtained have been compared with some other methods present in the literature.
