Abstract
A simple biofuel cell was constructed on a 50 μm-thick PI substrate using a porous carbon anode containing glucose oxidase and ferrocene, and a cathode containing bilirubin oxidase. Neither microchannel nor ion-exchange film separates the electrodes since the specificity of enzymes enable individual redox reactions in anode and cathode. The performances of the biofuel cell on temperatures, radii of curvature, and concentrations of glucose in phosphate buffer solution (PBS) were investigated. The biofuel cell generated a power density of 5.0 μW/cm2 at 0.092 V at 36°C in PBS containing 5.0 mM glucose.
