Abstract :
Product development (PD) emerges as a key process of competition and sustainability. However, PD is becoming not only more important, but also more complex and consequently, firms tend to collaborate in order to share PD risks and costs. Collaborative Product Development (CPD) develops into a business strategy creating competitive advantage for organizations in PD by creating a collaborative environment to share risks, reduce time to market and innovate. However, collaborative efforts in PD often result in failure due to lack of methodical implementation of CPD procedures. This paper presents an Axiomatic Design based CPD structure exploring CPD dynamics, in order to offer a guideline to increase success and effectiveness of collaborative efforts in PD.
