Abstract :
This work presents the architecture developed in the context of the EU-funded FP6-IST project named PROMISE, aiming at the closure of the whole set of information loops throughout the product lifecycle. The ultimate goals of the project are to integrate product data from the entire lifecycle via different sources, to support comprehensive analysis of this data and to enhance enterprise operational businesses through its effective use. This paper presents the PROMISE Architecture, which is composed of four main parts: the DSS (Decision Support System), Data Services (the middleware), the PEID (Product Embedded Information Device) and the PDKM (Product Data and Knowledge Manager). The information managed by the PROMISE architecture could be used for many applications such as predictive maintenance, DFx, and adaptive production. Within the PROMISE Project, the architecture has been implemented and used for 10 different applications, varying from a simple house refrigerator, to a train locomotive. After this success, it has been thought to propose the architecture and the PDKM model as a possible reference to develop a PLM standard.
