Abstract
The spring loading design concept in power cable joints involves the use of compressed coil springs to maintain a constant force on elastomeric adaptor sleeves used to electrically insulate the ends of extruded dielectric cables. This concept assures that pressure along seals and dielectric interfaces within a cable joint will remain relatively constant throughout years of service, in spite of permanent set or loss of elasticity known to occur in all elastomeric materials.
