To unlock the future global green society and reach the climate goals identified by the UN and EU, many energy challenges may be addressed by energy informatics, covering the use of ICT in analyzing, designing, and implementing an integrated energy system. Cloud computing and Big-data analytics are the core ICT components in Energy Informatics. The aim is to enable green growth and better energy experience through smart integration of sustainable energy systems and services, redefine business models and optimizing the value creation from energy resources. Among others, solutions may be explored in improving the energy-efficiency of buildings, Smart Cities, Smart Industries, and Smart Energy Grids. Examples are discussed through the ongoing EU Horizon2020 Smart Cities and Communities Lighthouse project Triangulum (http://www.triangulumproject.eu) between 2015-2020.
