Abstract :
This report describes work carried out under a Canadian Electrical Association (CEA) Project to investigate the use of polypropylene/cellulose paper laminate, having dielectric losses lower than conventional cellulose paper, as insulation for high voltage power cables, especially cables rated 500 kV and above. The project involved a study into the compatibility of various insulating liquids with laminates supplied from two sources, focussed on model cable evaluation to identify the optimum laminate/oil combination and on the application of laboratory data on the physical properties of the laminates to design a taping practice for a factory trial.
