Abstract :
The 3GPP LTE/LTE-A is the most promising technology for next-generation wireless communications providing peak data rates of 1 Gbps. The scheme for the allocation of resources to the users and the transmission mode has to be selected properly to improve the overall performance of the user communication. Scheduling is done based on the user velocity where high speed users and low speed users are allocated resources differently based on frequency diversity scheduling and frequency selective scheduling respectively. Transmission scheme also needs to be selected based on user velocity. In this paper, scheduling and transmission mode selection are jointly done by considering extended typical urban channel model profile with doppler frequency making it a more practical system. The downlink power allocated is an important criterion for deciding the performance of the LTE downlink which is also considered. There is an improvement of 12.5 % in throughput performance for transmit diversity mode and an improvement of 5.6 % for open loop spatial multiplexing mode for lower downlink power allocation factors. The simulation scenario uses LTE system toolbox for the design and verification which makes the formulation of the system model less complicated.
