  • Abstract
This article consists of a collection of slides from the author´s conference presentation on short-reach optical interconnection from VCSELs to silicon nanophotonics. Some of the specific topics discussed include: an introduction to the technology of optical interconnects; fibers, connectors, and module packaging; packaging processes; energy efficiency metrics and goals; silicon photonics and wavelength division multiplexing; an overview of recent optical components; and the key features and applications supported by microchips.
