Abstract
This article consists of a collection of slides from the author´s conference presentation on the evolution of x86 architectures. Some of the specific topics discussed include: the accelerated processing imperative; shift to software/hardware parallelism; the role of the GPU as floating point accelerator; Peta-scale processing for the masses; the market for GPUs; and the emergence of accelerated processing units (APUs).
