Abstract :
The multiple input multiple output (MIMO) antenna transmission system has proved to be highly spectrally efficient. It has also been shown that the capacity of a MIMO channel increases linearly with the number of antennas. Space Time Block Coded (STBC) systems can obtain high diversity order maintaining the high data throughput with a reduced complexity in transceiver configuration. 2 × 2 (Alamouti codes), 4 × 4 and 3 × 4 systems are available in literature supporting the above advantages. Extrapolating the concept of increased MIMO channel capacity with increased number of antennas we analyse an 8 × 8 STBC coded system in this paper. The decision metric for such a system is derived and the performance is alnaysed by varying the constellation complexity of the data modulation. We also present a performance analysis of 8 × 8 STBC system for different modulation schemes.
