Abstract
Energy efficiency is a key design criterion for routing protocols in Mobile Ad hoc NETworks (MANETs) since mobile nodes are strongly constrained in terms of energy supply. Network Coding (NC) is a new paradigm in data transport and promises to change many aspects of MANET. In this paper, we propose a Network Coding-based Energy Balancing for cooperative Multipath Routing (NC-EBMR) relaying node which operates over MANET. The packets at source nodes are transmitted on the multipath routing networks. Then, relay nodes encode the received packets and forward the new packets to next node. Finally, the destination node decodes the packets received from different paths and recovers the original data. The performance of this NC-EBMR is studied using NS2 and evaluated in terms of the energy consumption, energy efficiency when a packet is transmitted. Finally, we perform numerical experiments by which our approach is significantly promising. The simulations result shows that the multipath diversity achieved with our proposition can significantly improve the network energy consumption and energy efficiency.
