Abstract :
In order to investigate the possibility of exciting a transverse quadrupole-mode oscillation of an electron bunch, we carried out an experiment in the Photon Factory storage ring at KEK. While storing a single electron bunch, we modulated the betatron tune at a frequency of two-times the fractional betatron frequency, using a high-frequency quadrupole magnet. Then, the transverse quadrupole-mode oscillation could be observed very clearly
