Abstract
Faults on electrical transmission lines cause debits in terms of penalties to the utilities. The protection system, takes care of transient faults promptly; but in case of permanent fault events, more intelligent communication system is required. A communication infrastructure is a part and parcel of the smart grid. Client Server, Peer to Peer (P2P) and hybrid P2P communication application for locating a fault is demonstrated in this paper. Java code for pipelining and transferring the data from numeric meter (Server) to numeric relay (Client) is given.
