Abstract :
In the present scenario, Power Quality is one of major issue along with increase in demand either in domestic/industrial sector. Integration of various loads and violating the operating limits of utility causes serious problems at the load end and also at the source side. Due to sudden changes at load side the performance issues such as harmonics, poor power factor, and change in magnitudes of voltage will takes place. The research that has been carried out so far are effects at load end due to the changes/fluctuations at grid side but the effects on the grid side due to the changes at loadend has not been taken into account. This paper emphasizes on problems caused by heavy loads on the source side which cannot be neglected in practical sense. An Experimental validation is carried out at Electrical Machines lab to observe changes at source side parameters due to the changes in load. The mathematical modeling of source side parameters variation considering converter with DC motors as a load is done. A comparison is made between obtained values of the parameters with mathematical modeling and experimental validation, where a strict coincidence is observed.
