Abstract :
This paper presents the simulation of different types of single as well as composite power quality events (PQ) for analysis and characterization. Most of the power quality problems (the transient and steady state disturbances), which can occur in the distribution system, have been obtained. Six single PQ event such as voltage sag, voltage swell, interruption, transients, voltage notch and harmonics and five composite PQ events which are sag with transients, swell with transient, sag with harmonics, swell with harmonics and oscillatory transient with harmonics are obtained . The impact of various kinds of faults at different locations, the variation in magnitude and nature of voltage waveform with the change in fault resistance are analyzed. Simulation is conducted on IEEE 123 node test feeder using MATLAB/Simulink software, so as to identify and characterize different PQ events so that proper mitigation steps can be taken. This paper provides an alternative to generate PQ data by simulation for conducting research and analysis which will serve as prelude for power quality improvement.
