Abstract :
Standalone generation system is the most preferred for local energy supply. Since, the generator supplies directly to the load, its nature affect the generator performance. Thus, analysis of generator performance in such environment becomes critical. Therefore, under such environment, the choice of generator and it proper sizing becomes vital. In this paper, the performance of such a standalone system, supplying non-linear loads is analyzed. The generator considered is permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSGs). The generator is considered in horizontal configuration. The study has been performed using MATLAB/Simulink. The results obtained show that, a) torque ripples are induced in the PMSG under such conditions, and b) For same type of load, supplied by same type PMSG, higher ratings produce more ripples. Also, the effect of the harmonic currents on the flux of the generator has been demonstrated.
