Abstract :
A novel planar modified octagonal-shaped slot antenna for ultra-wideband (UWB) applications is presented. The antenna is based on the subtraction of metal areas which have the minimum current distributions on the surface of printed antenna. A rectangular slot employed in the octagonal patch is designed for realizing wider bandwidth. The optimized UWB antenna has a compact size of 45 × 32 × 1.6 mm3 and is fabricated and measured. The antenna offers excellent performance for UWB system and yields a wide bandwidth, defined by S11 <; -10 dB ranging from 2.4 to 12 GHz.
