  • Abstract
Nodes in mobile ad hoc networks consume energy in different modes which greatly depletes finite energy resulting in reduced lifetime of network. Under energy constrained operations, it is ideal to optimize energy use for extending network lifetime. We have evaluated the energy consumption of Ad-Hoc On-Demand Distance Vector(AODV), Dynamic Source Routing(DSR) and The Dynamic MANET On-Demand (DYMO) routing protocol using MICAZ Energy Model, by creating a scenario involving 30 nodes(default device types) in one subnet, with CBR traffic under Random Waypoint mobility model (Pause time=3 sec., Min speed=0mps and max speed=10mps). Total items to send are 100 (512 bytes each, interval =.1sec, start time=1, end time=101) with simulation time of 101 seconds in QualNet 5.0 discrete event simulator. The statistics are generated and recorded for these experiments carried out in simulation area of 1500 × 1500 mt.2 by choosing AODV, DSR and DYMO protocols from QualNet 5.0 Simulator. The total energy consumption values for the three routing protocols are equivalent. Contribution of energy consumed at idle mode is maximum in overall energy consumption in different cases.
