Abstract :
A series of implicit, electrostatic, two- and three-dimensional, particle-in-cell simulations are used to model heavy ion beam neutralization and focusing in the Scaled Final Focus Experiment at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. The simulations confirm the charge neutralizing effect of electrons introduced into the beam path as the beam is focused and exiting the accelerator
