Abstract
This paper presents the anomalous modal characteristics of the periodic substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) and two-dimensional periodical perforated microstrip on the mesh ground. A Full-wave eigenvalue approach is proposed to extract the complex propagation constants, showing the additional leakage phenomena in the two guided-wave structures: the surface wave leakage occurs at the cutoff frequency of the rectangular waveguide section of the SIW; and a new form of electromagnetic leakage near and above the leaky-mode region.
