Abstract
A novel methodology is proposed for longitudinal headway control design of platoons of automotive vehicles. A decentralized overlapping control law is obtained by using the inclusion principle, that is, by decomposing the original system model via an appropriate input/state expansion, and by applying the LQ optimization to the locally extracted subsystems. The methodology provides a reliable tool for platoon control design.
