Abstract
In this work, we apply the globally available information about the system to the thyristor controlled series capacitance (TCSC) controllers, placed at selected locations in the network. Based on the linearized model the system is reduced to its dynamic variables x/spl dot/=A/spl times/+B/spl middot/u, where x/spl isin//spl Rscr//sup n/ is the system state, and /spl isin//spl Rscr//sup m/ is the control vector. The controller proposed attempts to optimally adjust the line admittance on sample to sample basis in order to reduce the inter-area oscillations in the power systems. To that end, we track the critical set of eigenvalues and attempt to shift them jointly in order to reduce the inter-area oscillations. We explain how such approach may combine the global system information with locally observable quantities and eventually result in the break-up and dampening of inter-area modes.
