Characterising the low voltage mains as a communications medium

The authors formulate requirements for producing a realistic quantitative model of the domestic mains when used as a communications channel for narrowband digital communication. They identify the key effects that need to be modelled, present measurements and give a quantitative analysis. A model structure is proposed and modulation schemes are also briefly discussed.
