Abstract
The results of experimental investigation of liquid crystalline materials from the cyanobiphenyl group are reported. These were carried out in time as well as frequency domains. The interaction of ionic atmospheres with blocking electrodes is considered. In external electric field it results in formation, in the vicinity of the electrode, a heterocharge layer. The interfacial electrode field is the cause of charge injection. In conditions of negligible recombination between injected charge and heterocharge ions, in elevated time, quasi-static direct current is observed. In DC biased samples, under small AC signal excitation the effect due to a heterocharge layer can be observed. For more elevated electrical field strength the effects related to the formation of a homocharge layer are detected. Similar effects can be observed in viscous polymeric materials, particularly epoxide materials.
