Abstract :

Summary form only given. We demonstrate that Cr/sup 2+/:CdSe is a promising new broadly tunable mid-IR laser material. We have achieved continuous wavelength tuning over the entire 2.3-2.9 /spl mu/m spectral region limited only by mirror reflectivity. Untuned average power of 230 mW at 2.6 /spl mu/m with 27% conversion efficiency of absorbed power was also demonstrated.
