Abstract :
A new method for simultaneous optical pulse compression and extinction ratio improvement of G-S lasers by using a comb-like dispersion profiled fiber is proposed and experimentally verified. The extinction ratio was improved about 10 dB, which permits almost penalty free 40 Gbit/s 100 km OTDM transmission with the addition of an asymmetry dispersion compensation approach.
