Abstract
A design of a high efficiency, ultra low ripple 500 W converter is presented. The high efficiency and low ripple of the design is attributed to the use of the noninverting, step-up extension of the coupled-inductor Cuk converter. The comparable standard boost converter will have much more output ripple and lower efficiency. Detailed design descriptions, test data and comparison with the boost converter reveal the inherent efficiency and ripple advantages of the step-up coupled-inductor Cuk converter topology.
