Abstract
Summary form only given. We have previously shown that it is possible to implement optical planar components operating at the wavelength /spl lambda//sub 0/=1.55 /spl mu/m, by use of periodic dielectric waveguides of which the substrates are formed with the liquid crystal, and that the non-twisted nematic phase is well adapted for frequency tuning and the smectic A (SmA*) phase is more suitable for external frequency modulation. Here we propose a monolithic planar structure based on these waveguides, for wavelength multiplexing around 1.55 /spl mu/m.
