Abstract
This paper describes the use of a dynamic protection modelling system to investigate complex faults to determine whether protection equipment has performed correctly. An explanation of the modelling system is given and then the results of two case studies are presented. These are both real events that have occurred on the UK National Grid transmission system. The dynamic protection (DPM) system has been used to give a deeper understanding of how the individual protections performed and determine whether they performed correctly for the conditions presented or whether there was a defect within the protection scheme.
