Abstract
Polymer optical fibres (POFs) have reached a high level of reliability. This paper presents typical reliability, requirements of industrial and automotive applications. Attenuation mechanisms due to environmental stressing and fibre protection possibilities are discussed. Standards for testing are reviewed and an overview on reliability data of up-to-date POFs is given.
