Abstract :
This paper presents a performance comparison between space-time coding (STC) and trellis-coded cochannel interference canceller (TCC) assuming both frequency flat and frequency selective fading channels. The STC is a form of a transmit diversity scheme as it transmits multiple signals using different antennas in order to carry a single data stream. The TCC is a form of multiuser detector, which can estimate multiple signals from different transmitters. This paper describes the difference between STC and TCC, and then provides the BER performance of them over frequency flat and frequency selective fading channels. It is shown by computer simulations that TCC is as good as STC when channel impulse response is estimated, and that TCC can outperform STC over frequency selective fading channels.
