Abstract
We present a digit-recurrence division algorithm which uses limited-precision primitive operators consisting of multipliers, adders/subtractors, and table-lookups. The scheme is suitable for modular implementation. We describe the algorithm and develop a design. Comparisons is made for radix-512 with a division scheme with prescaling. The proposed scheme is estimated to have 28% longer cycle time at a 40% area reduction with a corresponding effect on power dissipation making the scheme interesting for low-power designs.
