Abstract :
We report transmission at 40 Gb/s over a record length (1700 km) of non-zero dispersion fiber with 100 km amplifier spacing. The demonstration is enabled by an all-fiber higher-order-mode dispersion-compensating module that features a high effective area and low insertion loss. The high effective area of the dispersion compensating module allows high input power, which helps maintain high optical signal-to-noise ratios throughout the transmission span.
